I suspect that much of this article came from the school's prospectus and indeed from someone at the school itself not familiar with the ways of wikipedia. That would be the reason why it reads like an advertisement. Certainly substantial rewriting is needed (though deletion would be wrong as this school is an important one in Scotland).
At the same time I am surprised that somebody who is not logged in to wikipedia is able to slap a notice on the page as has been done in this case. --Historian 10:43, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am an employee of Merchiston Castle School, and can confirm that the page was mainly written by a former pupil, and not anyone currently associated with the School. Much of the content is taken from the website.
If anyone can advise how this should be altered to allow the removal of the advertisment banner, I would be happy to do that. --gacordiner, 15 April 2006

I am a former pupil familiar with wikipedia, i will rewrite it over the next few days. Cricketgirl 21:52, 6 May 2006 (UTC) Sorry i wrote that, was accidentally logged on as my friend......im gonna leave it cause its funny though. Phil 20686 21:56, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article is more than a little biased (much of the material being taken directly from the school's website) and merits immediate re-writing to justify it as an encyclopedia entrance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.79.164.245 (talk) 15:53, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possible expansion of page?

[edit]

The article currently compacts the school too much. I would advocate that, for example, seperate pages be written for each of the seperate houses, which would allow for greater detail. I see that Fettes College has similar links, so I believe Merchiston should have some too, them being rival schools. Crimson Blacknight 01:44, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Merchiston logo.JPG

[edit]

Image:Merchiston logo.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:19, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assess

[edit]

A good start. More content and references needed to advance to a B. The history section needs expansion. There is excessive detail on the house system which is only of interest to people at the school. Dahliarose 22:23, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Advertising and bias

[edit]

The first/second paragraph of this article reads like something out of a prospectus. It needs to be changed, especially the stuff about high pass rates, which like every other private school is artificially boosted using scholarships etc.--MacRusgail (talk) 20:19, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of article link me section -

[edit]

Please can you remove the alleged historical sexual abuse section

This dates from a case from 2015. The case was closed and no one was sentenced.

This does not represent the school.

This needs a reliable source confirming that the case is closed with no further action being taken. See WP:RS. Dormskirk (talk) 14:52, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
